Energy Extravaganza: dove la curiosità accende la scienza
From solar-powered circuits to creative demonstrations of kinetic and potential energy, the Year 5 campus was buzzing with excitement as students unveiled weeks of inquiry, experimentation, and discovery. The Energy Extravaganza, our much-anticipated final exhibition of the Unit of Inquiry “Energy”, transformed classrooms into vibrant learning labs, where questions became investigations and ideas took physical shape.
We believe that curiosity is the most powerful engine of learning. This is why, once again this year, our Year 5 students brought to life an event that celebrates creativity, experimentation, and the joy of scientific discovery.
The Energy Extravaganza is much more than a traditional science fair: it is a true journey into the children’s investigative thinking, an opportunity to transform abstract ideas into tangible, observable, measurable experiences. Each project begins with an authentic question, develops through hypotheses and experimentation, and takes shape in presentations where our young scientists explain their findings with passion and confidence.
As Mrs. Emma, one of the teachers and co-creators of the event, explains:
“We organise this day every year to nurture in children a love for scientific inquiry and to offer them a space where they can share what they have learned beyond the classroom walls. Watching them work with such autonomy, collaboration, and a genuine desire to understand the world is proof that real learning is born through experience.”
Learning by doing: science comes to life
During the exhibition, students had the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the Unit of Inquiry on energy, putting into practice key scientific skills such as careful observation, measurement and data collection, analysis and communication of results, and the ability to ask meaningful questions.
This hands-on and concrete approach not only strengthens essential scientific concepts, but also helps students develop transversal skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and effective expression of their ideas.
A bridge to the future in the MYP
The Energy Extravaganza also represents an important moment of growth as students prepare to transition into the Middle Years Programme. Through experimental activities and structured presentations, our learners acquire the tools that will help them confidently embrace the challenges of the MYP, where critical thinking, autonomy, and scientific inquiry become increasingly central.
Young scientists exploring (and changing) the world
Watching our Year 5 students experiment, make mistakes, try again, and proudly share their discoveries reminds us of a powerful truth: science does not live only in books, but in the hands and eyes of those who are willing to explore.
The Energy Extravaganza empowers children with the awareness that ideas can become reality, and that each of them is capable of understanding, and one day influencing, the world around them.
We are proud to accompany them on this journey, and we look forward to discovering which new questions will inspire their future investigations.
