Digital Day: a journey into the future of digital citizenship

How can we distinguish reality from the virtual world? How can we transform a digital idea into something tangible? Most importantly, how can we use technology consciously and responsibly?

At H-FARM International School Rosà, these questions guided students and parents through Digital Day, an event designed to explore and understand both the opportunities and challenges of the digital world.

Online Safety: Data, Time, and Awareness
Lower Secondary 1 students delved into crucial topics such as cybersecurity, phishing, and hacker attacks. Through interactive quizzes, they reflected on their time spent online, personal data management, and strategies to protect themselves from digital threats. In the Coding Gym, students engaged with computational thinking in a unique way: blindfolded, they had to follow a partner’s verbal instructions to navigate an obstacle course. This activity helped them grasp the importance of logic and clear communication, key elements in programming. Finally, by creating a video game from a hand-drawn design, students gained firsthand experience of the video game development process, understanding each stage from concept to the final digital product.

Creativity and Social Engagement: A Message Against Cyberbullying
Being a responsible digital citizen also means understanding the social impact of technology. Lower Secondary 2 students tackled the issue of cyberbullying by designing logos and slogans with a clear message: take a stand against online violence and promote mutual respect. Their creations were printed on T-shirts, demonstrating how creativity can serve as a powerful tool for awareness and advocacy. This project offered a unique approach to addressing a sensitive issue. From raising awareness to creating a visible symbol—a wearable message of responsibility and respect—students transformed their ideas into action.

Beyond the Screen: Distinguishing Reality from Digital Manipulation
Lower Secondary 3 students explored digital manipulation using CoSpaces, a platform for creating interactive 3D environments. They challenged parents and peers to differentiate between real images and those altered or generated by artificial intelligence (AI). During the workshop, two students shared key techniques for identifying fake content: details such as distorted hands, unrealistic hair, and inconsistencies in the background can often reveal an artificially generated image. This workshop reversed traditional roles, as parents became students, experiencing firsthand the knowledge their children had developed in the classroom. It was a valuable opportunity for them to engage with their children’s learning, witnessing their progress while acquiring new insights themselves.

Through practical experiences and open discussions, students demonstrated that the digital world is not just a space for consumption but a powerful resource for self-expression, learning, and social contribution. They tackled challenges such as misinformation, online safety, and cyberbullying—gaining the skills to navigate the digital landscape with confidence, ethics, and curiosity.

Mr. Federico Gerhardinger, DLC

“Digital Day was a meaningful opportunity for students to put their skills into practice, showcasing not only their technological proficiency but also a critical and conscious approach to the digital world. Watching them interact with the public with confidence and expertise reaffirms the value of an education that integrates technology in a responsible and innovative way.”
