Between Simplicity and Chaos: Tommaso’s Sartorial Vision

Have you ever thought of fashion as philosophy? you ever thought of fashion as philosophy?

Tommaso’s Personal Project isn’t just a clothing collection. It’s a reflection — of identity, contrast, and transformation. In his words, it’s “a metaphor between simplicity and chaos”, held together by a single, evocative word: Rise.

The title isn’t random. It speaks to the idea of rebirth, of re-emergence — and of youth using fashion not just to dress, but to express.

From personal vision to public exhibition

Presented as part of the DP Art Exhibition, Tommaso’s project bridges the worlds of fashion design and conceptual art. What began as a reflection on his own creative process evolved into a full collection of gendered outfits — exploring tension, balance, and individuality through fabric and form. It’s not about following trends. It’s about turning personal perspective into visual language.

Ancient stitches, modern purpose

One of the standout elements in the male outfit is a Sashiko scarf, inspired by a centuries-old Japanese embroidery technique. Originally developed by rural workers to reinforce worn-out clothing, Sashiko — which means “little stabs” — transforms mending into beauty. Its bold, visible stitching is not just decorative, but deeply symbolic: a gesture of care, resilience, and creative reuse.

By incorporating Sashiko into his collection, Tommaso isn’t just borrowing aesthetics. He’s honoring a philosophy — one that values imperfection, memory, and making things last. It’s a quiet rebellion against throwaway fashion, and a nod to the power of craftsmanship.

The jacket that speaks

At the center of the collection is a custom denim jacket, created from a unique blend of denim and cotton threads. The result is textured, soft, and distinctly wearable. But more importantly, the piece has something to say. Tommaso sees it as “a symbol of revolution for the youth” — a statement that fashion can be both armor and voice.

Denim, long associated with countercultures and movements, becomes here a tool for visibility: a way for young people to take up space, challenge norms, and rise.

An artistic, academic journey

Tommaso’s project goes far beyond sewing and sketching. It’s backed by deep research into textile history, fashion theory, sustainability, and the role of clothing in self-expression. He explored how garments communicate identity, resist categorization, and create cultural meaning — all while producing pieces that are technically ambitious and visually striking.

His Personal Project is both an artistic statement and an academic investigation — one that shows how tradition, innovation, and individual vision can meet in a single thread.
