Eco-Schools Day: H-FARM Takes Action Against Food Waste

Have you ever thought about what happens to the food you throw away?
Every day, tons of food end up in the trash, wasting precious resources and contributing to pollution. From this simple yet powerful question, H-FARM International School launched its Eco-Schools Day — a fully student-led event dedicated to sustainability.
Divided into themed groups — art, coding, composting, data, digital design, healthy lifestyle, music, and newsroom — students tackled the issue of food waste from different perspectives, blending creativity, technology, and hands-on solutions.
Creative Ideas for a Greener Future
The composting team explored practical solutions to reduce food waste through composting, turning scraps into a resource and envisioning a circular system within the school campus.
The coding group created an educational video game where players learn to recognize and correct harmful food-related behaviors, using play as a tool for interactive and engaging awareness.
The digital design students produced a series of eye-catching Eco-School posters, combining powerful visuals and slogans to encourage reflection on our daily impact on the environment.
The data team conducted a detailed analysis of food waste, collecting data from the campus and comparing it to global statistics. Their findings were translated into clear and accessible infographics to help make the numbers meaningful to everyone.
The music class composed an original song — the anthem of the day — that shared messages of respect for the planet and encouraged more mindful living.
The art students created installations using flower pots and glue (vinavil), inspired by nature and its life cycles. Their pieces celebrated the beauty of simplicity while delivering a visual call to protect the environment.
A Project That Combines Awareness and Action
The entire day demonstrated just how powerful youth can be when given the opportunity to act and offer solutions. Among the strongest messages that emerged:
- Every action counts, even the smallest one.
- Food waste is an ethical, environmental, and economic issue.
- Reusing, planning, and sharing are effective strategies to reduce it.
- Collaboration and creativity can truly make a difference.
Eco-Schools Day was not just an event, but an opportunity to turn the school into a laboratory of ideas, actions, and hope for a more sustainable world. And it all started from one simple question: have you ever thought about what you waste?
