A planet of ice cream sourcing milk straight from the Milky Way? An ice cream flavored with turnip and mint? Nothing is impossible for the young inventors at H-FARM International School!

A planet of ice cream sourcing milk straight from the Milky Way? An ice cream flavored with turnip and mint? Nothing is impossible for the young inventors at H-FARM International School!

A few months ago, Gelateria La Romana, a historic Italian brand with over 80 locations worldwide, challenged both our college students and the younger minds in the PYP program to imagine the gelateria of the future through an innovative and interdisciplinary approach.

This collaboration, born from the spirit of “Imagining the future to build it together,” guided our inventors of tomorrow through a three-phase journey:

1. The Inspirational Kickoff

The journey began with a special event in the Big Hall at H-FARM. Led by CEO Massimiliano Zucchi, Training and Operations Manager Lucia Cappelli, and Marketing and Communication Creative Designer Emma Gabrielli, the students explored the history and philosophy of Gelateria La Romana.
This moment blended storytelling, curiosity, and vision, inspiring students to envision not just the art of making ice cream but how this beloved treat could evolve in the future.

2. Workshop: Creativity Without Limits

The second phase featured PYP4 students participating in a workshop that combined Design Thinking with pure imagination.
To earn the crown of knowledge and the wand of future thinking, the young inventors worked on incredible ideas, showcasing a surprising mix of fantasy and reasoning.
What came out of this process?
An ice cream planet that sources milk directly from the Milky Way, a cash register with a robotic arm that lets customers taste the flavors, bold and unexpected flavor combinations like turnip and mint to intrigue adventurous consumers!

3.Hands-On! (Or Should We Say, Hands-in-Ice-Cream!)

The project concluded with an unforgettable experience: a hands-on workshop where children, including the youngest EYU students, crafted artisanal gelato with their own hands and then enjoyed it together.
This activity merged interdisciplinary learning with play, perfectly aligned with the IB (International Baccalaureate) philosophy, where theory and practice come together to create memorable experiences—this time leaving everyone with a smile and a delicious gelato in hand!
Following the artisanal workshop, the students presented their ideas to Gelateria La Romana’s marketing team, who had been part of the initial phase of the project. To reward their creativity and hard work, the young inventors were invited to a special hands-on experience at Gelateria La Romana’s headquarters in Treviso.

The collaboration between Gelateria La Romana and H-FARM was more than just an opportunity to dream—it was a true exercise in Future Thinking. It encouraged students to develop critical skills such as collaboration, creative problem-solving, and the ability to generate innovative ideas.
We hope this is just the beginning of a partnership that promises to continue inspiring young generations. Thanks to Gelateria La Romana, our young inventors at H-FARM International School have learned that the future is built with imagination, passion, and just a touch of sweetness.
