Science as a Bridge Between Generations: A New Year of Collaboration Between Primary Years Programme and Diploma Programme
What happens when the enthusiasm of younger students meets the knowledge of older ones? An authentic learning experience emerges, filled with experiments, discovery, and collaboration. Once again this year, at H-FARM International School, PYP5 and DP1 students came together in a science laboratory to explore the topic of heat transfer, an eagerly awaited experience that continues to show how science can unite and inspire.
A Shared Science Laboratory Between PYP and DP
As soon as they stepped into the chemistry lab, the PYP5 students put on lab coats and safety goggles, ready to become real scientists. Guided patiently and attentively by the DP1 students, they closely observed how heat moves from one material to another, discovering that behind a complex concept lies a fascinating world to explore.
Experiential Learning: Seeing Science in Action
The hands-on component of the activity made everything more concrete. During the heat transfer science lab, students used a thermal camera to “see” heat in action, observing different temperature patterns and visually understanding concepts that were previously only theoretical.
Mentorship and Collaboration Between Students
For the younger students, it was an opportunity to learn with their hands, eyes, and hearts. For the older students, it was a chance to take on the role of mentors, learning to explain complex scientific concepts with clarity and creativity.
This laboratory is more than just a scientific experience: it is an example of collaborative and intergenerational learning, where curiosity drives knowledge and a passion for science becomes a common language among students of different ages. A bridge between generations, built through enthusiasm and discovery.
